Arva Ruggle age 83, of Perry died on Friday, April 30, 2010 at her home in Perry. Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Perry. Visitation will be Monday, May 3, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 4:00 to 7:00 with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at Carris Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to St. Patrick's Foundation and may be left at the Funeral Home.

Arva Marie Ruggle was born on March 22, 1927 near Perry, IA to Joseph Adrian and Evaline (Bender) Hurd. She graduated from St. Patrick's High School. Arva worked for Perry Milk Products after high school. She was united in marriage to Joseph Ruggle on September 14, 1948 at St. Patrick's Church. After raising her own children she was like a mother to many other children by providing day care.

Arva was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Perry Historic Preservation Commission. Along with her husband, she delivered meals on wheels as well as the Perry CHAT sheet. Her special talent was creating hand sewn quilts for family and friends.

Arva was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Evaline Hurd, brother, Gene Hurd and 1 son Michael.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Ruggle of Perry, IA, children, Don (Karen) Ruggle of Perry, Jim (Donna) Ruggle of Waunakee, WI, Dave Ruggle of Ames, IA, Paul (Dianne) Ruggle of Newton, IA, Margaret Ruggle of Des Moines, IA, Anna Ruggle of Des Moines, Dan (Gina) of Perry, IA, Jerry (Christine) of Perry, and Kevin (Kristi) of Manhattan, KS, brothers, Marion (Jean) Hurd of Marshalltown, IA, and Joe Hurd of Iowa City, IA, 13 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
