Curtis Dickson age 65, of Woodward died on Friday, March 5, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at 5:00 p.m. at Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation will be Monday, March 8, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date. Memorials will be given to Iowa Chapter of Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Lung Cancer Foundation of America and may be left at the Funeral Home.

 

Curtis Gene Dickson was born on August 23, 1944 in Dexter, IA to Roscoe Fredrick and Ferne Marzella (Barnhouse) Dickson. He attended the Menlo Community School and enjoyed playing sports. He graduated with the class of 1961. He served his country in the United States Army following in Korea during peace time. He married Sandra Lea Cannon on February 27, 1970 in the Menlo Methodist Church. Curtis was employed in the hog slaughter business since 1968 at the Perry plant, the last 10 years as a Food Safety Inspector.


Curtis was a member of the First Christian Church at Woodward. As a member of the church he served as a deacon, elder, chairman of the board and a youth group leader. He enjoyed working with wood, roller skating, fishing, playing billiards, whistling, singing, playing games and making his own rules as the game progressed, drew mazes, dirt track racing and driving go carts. He especially loved talking with friends and family, spending time with his grandkids and sharing new ideas. He was a current member of the Lions Club, Friends n' Neighbors Day Committee in Woodward, and a past member of the Elks, Moose, and Menlo American Legion.


Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Ferne Dickson.


Survivors include his wife, Sandra Lea Dickson of Woodward, IA, son, Christapher Dickson (Stephanie) of Woodward, IA, daughter, Michelle Dickson of Woodward, IA, grandchildren, Michael, Timothy, Kolton, Bethanie, and Caitlin, a sister, Twilah Tipling (Bob) of Fontanelle, IA, nephews, Shawn Tipling (Helen) of Fontanelle, IA, Matthew Tipling (Angie) of Van Meter, IA, and many other members who are the family of our heart.
