Carris Family Funeral Home is in charge of services for Louis A. Hoger age 88, of Perry, who died on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in Perry. Local funeral services will be held Saturday, January 16, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Irene Barbara Lunde Chapel at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in Perry. Funeral services will be held in Kansas on Monday, January 18, 2010 at Hope Lutheran Church located at 6308 Quivira Rd in Shawnee, KS with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Kansas City, KS.

Louis Albert Hoger was born on September 14, 1921 in Chicago, IL to George Herman and Ethel (Barbott) Hoger. He attended school in Chicago. He married Grace Alice Tuitman on August 30, 1942.

He served in the United States Army with the 70th Infantry Division in WWII. For his bravery, he was awarded the Bronze Star. He later served 22 years as the Treasurer and Secretary of the 70th Division Association.

Louis spent his working career as Director of Traffic for MidAmerican Truck Lines in Chicago and Kansas City. Later he worked for Middlewest Motor Freight Bureau until the age of 70.

While living in Mission, Kansas, Lou was active at Trinity Lutheran Church and at Hope Lutheran Church, Shawnee. Moving to Iowa, Lou joined Christ Lutheran Church of Bouton, IA.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Grace, son Paul, and 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

Survivors include his children, Muriel (Bud) Lovett, Moresville, NC, Louis G. (Lois) Hoger, Allen (Sue) Hoger, Judith Hoger, 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and a sister-in-law Eleanor Hoger.

He is loved and missed by his children, grandchildren, military comrades, caregivers, and friends.

Louis requested memorials be given to Lutheran World Relief or the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home and may be sent to the Carris Family Funeral Home, 1721 Park St., Perry, IA 50220.
