
Richard Crane age 94, of Perry died on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at the Dallas County Hospital in Perry. Memorial services will be held Friday, March 19, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Perry. Visitation will be Thursday, March 18, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Carris Family Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel. Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church or Iowa Hospice and may be left at the Funeral Home.
Richard Floyd Crane was born on November 21, 1915 at Manti, IA to Floyd Winfield and Lena (Ketchum) Crane. He graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1934. He married Helen Hatch on September 5, 1937 in Shenandoah, IA. He served in the United States Army from March 1944 to November 1945. He was taken prisoner in Germany from November 12 1944 and was liberated May 3, 1945. Richard was the owner of the Henry Field Seed Store in Perry 1947 to 1958 and then became a sales representative for the Nitragen Company until he retired in 1985.
Dick was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Perry School Board, Perry Park Department Board, charter member of Perry Jaycees, the Perry Chamber of Commerce, the Perry Elks Lodge, and a long
time member of the Perry Golf and Country Club. He loved coin collecting, golfing, and was a volunteer for Perry Fire Department for 37 years.
Dick was preceded in death by parents, Lena and Floyd Crane, wife, Helen, brother, Robert Crane, and a sister, Margaret Browning.
Survivors include his daughters, Patricia Ryan (Jerald) of Hixson, TN, Kathy Buffington of Des Moines, IA, and Julie Barlow (Bryan) of Maynard, MA, grandchildren, Todd Ryan(Sandra) of Knoxville, TN,
Amy Tucker (Jason) of Knoxville, TN, Richard Buffington (Blythe) of Des Moines, IA, Sarah Bailey (Austin) of Des Moines, IA, Chris Wozny (Lisa) of Framingham, MA, and Jennifer Wozny of Worcester, MA,
great grandchildren, Payton and Hannah Ryan, and Eric, Meredith and Maddie Tucker and his special friend Jean Gearhart.
